We are delighted to welcome back Clare Hammond who was a firm Festival favourite in 2015. Acclaimed as a pianist of“amazing power and panache” (The Telegraph), she is recognised for the virtuosity and authority of her performances and has developed a“reputation for brilliantly imaginative concert programmes” (BBC Music Magazine).

Rolf Hind

Rolf Hind’s tours have taken him from Carnegie Hall to the Proms and all major international concert halls and festivals. A specialist of 20th and 21st century repertoire, he has worked with many composers whose works he premièred, including Ligeti, Messaien and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, whose piano sonata is the main work in this concert. The concert features Scuttle, a new piece commissioned by the Festival and written by Kerry Andrew.

Lauren Zhang

Lauren Zhang

In 2018, Lauren Zhang won the BBC Young Musician Competition in her home town of Birmingham. Her performance of Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Wigglesworth was broadcast live on BBC4 and BBC Radio 3 to widespread critical acclaim.

Paul Taylor

Paul Taylor is an accomplished pianist and keyboard player specialising in improvisation, now receiving increasing interest both in the UK and in the rest of Europe. The music is evocative, alluring and unique; combining unusual harmonies and sonorities with an original and fluid technique. 

He has been selected as Jazz North's Ambassador Artist on the 2018-19 Northern Line touring scheme for upcoming artists in the North of England.
